Race Around the Island, Saturday May 3 2025

CROCC’s Race Around the Island is on May 3 at Chinook Landing Marine Park in Troutdale, Oregon! Please see our full race packet for more information and for registration forms:

RATI 2025 Race Packet

A continental breakfast, coffee, and water will be provided to our participants. We will also be selling lunch, including a vegetarian option.. At the end of the day, there will be a raffle and awards presentation.

Events:

  • The Long course is a 10+ mile paddle open to all divisions.
  • The Short course is a 4-6 mile paddle open to all divisions.

**All course lengths are subject to change due to conditions.**

Open to Mixed, Women, and Men with Novice, Youth, Open, Master 40, Master 50, Master 60 and Master 70 Divisions.

Pre-registration opens immediately and closes on April 30, 2025. Participants who pre-register will receive 2 raffle tickets per paddler. Make checks payable to “CROCC.” Please e-mail completed forms to kate.e.dilworth@gmail.com or snail mail to:

Adaptive Paddle Clinic: Sat, Oct 13th

Come learn the basics of Outrigger Canoe paddling with Ann Yoshida, Founding Athlete of Access Surf Hawaii, a 2016 Paralympian, World Adaptive Surfing and Paracanoe World Champion.  We are looking forward to sharing our love for Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Paddling with people of all abilities.

The club members will provide the equipment, instructions, and snacks!  The location has wheelchair accessible parking, restrooms, and accessible docks. If you would like to come and try, please bring some water, a towel, and plan on meeting us at the top of the boat ramp located near the Sheriff’s office.  There is a $5 Metro parking fee.

Intro to Outrigger Paddling: Sun, Aug 6th

Did you know that we consider the Wa’a (canoe) is considered our 7th member of the crew?  What about the fact that many the Hawai’ian terminology that is used for the human body are also used to describe parts of the Wa’a?   Have you ever wanted to just get out and try paddling an Outrigger Canoe?  Well here is your opportunity to learn about some of the Hawai’ian Wa’a Traditions and to get out on the water.

CROCC is hosting an Intro to Outrigger Paddling event on Sunday, August 6th from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM.  Come down to Gleason Boat Ramp and meet up with members of the Club, learn about the sport and get out and have fun on the water.

2017 RATI Awards

A completed set of awards ready to be given away.

Thanks Jeanine for taking the lead in designing and crafting this years beautiful RATI awards. She collaborated with her sister and organized a Saturday work party to get them created and fired.  CROCC would also like to thank the folks at Village Glass Studio (http://www.villageglassstudio.com/)  for the use of their space and kiln.   Thank you also to Bobbie and Doug for volunteering a afternoon to getting these done with the guidance of Jeanine.

The awards are made from blue or clear glass which was hand cut, drilled, and washed in order to prep it for the stenciling process.  Each piece was hand stenciled with one of the following designs: outrigger paddle, a plumeria flower, an ocean wave, and the Makau (Hawaiian fish hook) and glass medium called “frit”,   We used two different colors of frit to come up with unique looks to each set of awards.

Once the piece was stenciled it was placed onto trans and it was put in to kiln to be fired.  The process of firing melted the stenciled pattern into the glass and smoothed all of the rough edges creating the final awards.

Canoes at the Beach!

Sunday June 5 was pretty hot, but CROCC stayed cool. Old friends and new came together to try outrigger canoeing and to play in the river. Check out the complete photo gallery. Thanks to Sheryl Bruno for taking the pictures, and thanks to everyone who came!

Join CROCC for a Paddling Party, Sunday June 5!

KeikiPaddlePlease join us on the beach and try outrigger canoeing–all ages and abilities are welcome. Whether you’ve been paddling for years, are looking for a new sport, or are just want something fun to do on the weekend, we invite you to join the friendly paddlers of CROCC on our beautiful Hawaiian outrigger canoe!

When: Sunday, June 5 11am-1pm
Where: Broughton Beach near M James Gleason Boat Ramp, 4325 NE Marine Drive, Portland
We provide: canoes, paddles, PFDs, shade, refreshments
Please bring: towel, sunscreen, $5 for parking

This is a free event, though donations to CROCC are always welcome. (Metro does charge $5 per vehicle for parking.) We hope to see you there!

With the close of the 2015 comes the transition of previous Board to 2016 Board. Before I announce the 2016 Board of directors, I would like to first express my sincere thanks to the 2015 Board members. CROCC Featured by The Columbian:

The article also includes information about the club and it’s family feel. Erik produced a short video that has an interview with Doug Keeney, Club President, and footage from Erik’s first paddle with CROCC.
