CROCC would like to thank everyone who participated and made Race Around the Island (RATI) a huge success. It was a fantastic day filled with the sense of Ohana and belonging.
As always we would like to thank the safety boat captains and crews, the Clark County and Multnomah Sheriff River Patrols that kept a ever watching eye on the paddlers as they competed. Mahalo to the hula dancers and Auntie Deva from Ke Kukui Foundation for providing us with a wonderful opening ceremony. Also a special thanks to Tim, Roxanne, and Auntie Jeanne for officiating and keeping things in order. Additionally we would like to thank Kendal Sparks for designing the RATI t-shirt

Our thanks to Hui Wa‘a o Waikinikona for such a wonderful day of sprint racing out on Green Lake. Our paddlers had a great time getting out there on the water and competing with the all the clubs. Even thought we didn’t always have full CROCC crew padding we were able to get all paddlers out there who wanted to race with other teams. Big Mahalo to Alex Rohr for jumping in and representing CROCC with the other youth teams from Kikaha o Ke Kai and Hui Heihei Wa‘a. Also we would like to congratulate Cris on her V1 race though it was a hull finish with a first place win, great way to stick the dismount (Wicked Grin)!
Mahalo to all the clubs that made this race possible by providing canoe to support all of the events.
CROCC is looking forward to hosting clubs from PNWORCA at RATI on May 31, 2014 at Chinook Landing Marine Park in Fairview Oregon. There will be 8-10 mile Long course and a 4-6 mile Short course that is open to all divisions. An opening ceremony will be provided by Ke Kukui Foundation. A free continental breakfast with coffee and water will be offered to all who attend, and selling a BBQ lunch plate for $10.00 as a fundraiser.
The lunch menu consists of the following:
–BBQ Salmon
–Grilled Mushrooms
–Asian Style Slaw
–Hawaiian Style Mac Salad
On May 24, 2014 CROCC will competing in the Na Po’e O ke Kai sprints hosted by Hui Wa’a O Waikinikona at Green Lake, Seattle, Washington. Our paddling crew will join other clubs in the sprint that will consist of several events including the following:
500 Meters (1 Turn)
1000 Meters (3 Turns)
1500 Meters (5 Turns)
If you are in Seattle, come out and cheer on the teams and have a great day by the lake.

On April 26, 2014 CROCC will competing in the Rusty Iron Distance Race hosted by Pacific Outrigger Canoe Club (POCC). Come on out to Frenchman’s Bar park in Vancouver, WA and cheer the crews on.

Columbia River Outrigger Canoe Club (CROCC) will be launching the 2014 Junior Division Program for youths between 15 and 20 years of age. This program will follow our current adult curriculum with the addition of sport history, Hawai’ian history, and traditions around outrigger canoeing.
Practices start April 9, 2014 at 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM and will be each Wednesday there after. Additional practice will be added as interest or membership grows. If you or your youth are interested in the program or practices please contact Doug Keeney at coaches@croccpaddle.com. Please feel free to check out our website (croccpaddle.com) for more information about the club and utilize the calendar to sign up for practices (junior or open). Remember everyone is welcome to join us for an open paddle practice.

Our novice women’s crew is inviting all women that want a supportive environment in competition. The season is starting and we invite you to come and compete as one of the ‘Ohana (family) in our team.
If you love the water and want a great workout, we have a sport for you. We desire to compete at the highest level of competition in the Hawai’ian sport of canoe paddling. Our team requires commitment, discipline and teamwork, which leads to excellence on and off the water. We paddle as one and win as one.
Our mission: To encourage, sustain, and perpetuate outrigger canoe paddling, racing and the related Hawai’ian traditions. We strive to embrace and nurture the community through inclusiveness and all skill levels in order to teach and improve paddling technique and to maximize enjoyment of the sport.
We will hold practices throughout the week and as needed during the race season. If you are not ready for the competition, come join our open crew and learn the technique and healing powers of outrigger canoeing.
On March 1, 2014 a few members of CROCC attended the “E Pā‘ina Kākou: A Cultural Lū‘au” hosted by Kaleinani o ke Kukui and Ke Kukui Foundation. This is an annual fundraising event for Ke Kukui Foundation and helps support the programs they provide to the community. It was a wonderful night of fantastic Hawai‘ian food, excellent music and entertainment and an impressive silent auction.
Next event will be the Hawai‘ian Slack Key Guitar Festival Portland Style on Thursday, March 20th at the Alpenrose Dairy Opera House.
